「そのまんま」という
言葉のこと。

ひとつだけ、表記を絶対に譲らない言葉があります。「そのまんま」です。資料でも、サイトでも、「そのまま」と書かれていたら直します。There's exactly one word whose spelling we never let slide: sonomanma. In a deck, on the site — if it shows up as sonomama, we change it back.

意味はほとんど同じはずなのに、口に出すと違います。「そのままでいい」は、許可の言葉です。上から下に向かって出る。「そのまんまでいいよ」は、隣に座っている人の言葉です。力が抜けていて、体温がある。The meaning is nearly identical, yet the two land differently out loud. "You may stay as you are" is a permission — it travels downward. "You're fine just as you are" is what the person sitting next to you says. It's unclenched. It has body heat.

飾らなくていい。盛らなくていい。Nothing to dress up. Nothing to inflate.

家の名前でもあります

東京・恵比寿にあった一軒の家を、そのまんま荘と呼んでいました。2018年から、知らない若者を泊め続けた家です。名前のとおりの家でした。何かをしてあげる場所ではなく、ただ、そのまんまの人がそのまんま座っていられる場所。A house in Ebisu, Tokyo, went by the name Sonomanma-so. From 2018 it kept taking in young people none of us had met. It was a house that lived up to its name — not somewhere things were done for you, just somewhere a person could sit as they were.

就活で、いちばん削られるもの

就職活動では、多くの人が自分を編集します。学生時代の話を整え、志望動機を合わせ、話し方を寄せる。それは努力であって、悪いことではありません。ただ、編集を重ねるほど、その人が本当に持っているものは見えにくくなっていきます。Job hunting has most people editing themselves. Tidying the student-years story, aligning the motivation, adjusting how they speak. That's effort, and there's nothing wrong with it. But every pass of editing makes what the person actually holds a little harder to see.

やっていることは、地味です

そのまんまのあなたで、そのまんま輝ける地球を。言葉にすると大きく聞こえますが、やっていることは地味です。ひとつずつ空間を増やし、ひとりずつ迎えて、書いて、返す。それだけを続けています。An Earth where you shine exactly as you are. Said out loud it sounds enormous; the work is unglamorous. One more space, then one more. Welcome one person, write it down, send it back. We just keep doing that.

だから、そのまんまです。そのままではありません。So: sonomanma. Never sonomama.
